What is Rep/Club Basketball?

Each year Ontario Basketball organizes and stages the Ontario Cup Provincial Championships, which are open to all member clubs. Teams entered into the Ontario Cup are made up of community "rep" and club team programs.  Ontario Basketball offers a competitive playing environment for every community by hosting competitions in Division 1 through Division 6, with Division 1 being the highest level of competition.  Each level is very competitive, and is offered to males and females in nine age categories.

The Timmins Selects Basketball Club offers competitive Club basketball for those players aged 10-19yrs who wish to participate in a competitive program.
Community coaches are appointed to run a team and tryouts are held for anyone interested in playing. Teams consist of the best 12 players from Timmins for each category. Once the team is selected, the team will practice locally, play exhibition games locally and travel to tournaments out of town in order to qualify for the Ontario Cup Provincial Championships.

When are Tryouts?

Once coaches have been appointed, arrangements will be made for tryouts for each team. Tryout schedules will be posted above on this page.

Who can tryout?
Anyone can tryout for the club team no matter what school you attend. Remember that community clubs have nothing to do with the school you attend. The coach will select the best 12 players from the City for each age group. All players registered or non-registered with TSBC are invited and encouraged to try out for our competitive program. Player selection is the sole responsibility of the appointed coach and his/her staff.

How much will it cost?
The extra costs involved with playing competitive basketball can be significant both financially and in terms of time commitment. There are practices as well as weekend tournaments out of town to consider. Each competitive team works under its own budget and will be responsible for its own costs. The coach will be able to confirm at tryouts the additional fees or fundraising required for the upcoming season. Players are required to purchase their own set of uniforms.

Are there teams every year for all age groups?
The TSBC does not necessarily field competitive teams for all age groups. The level and number of competitive teams fielded by the club remains the sole responsibility of the club executive.
Several factors affect the TSBC's ability to have team(s) for certain age categories. These are:

The availability of certified coaches
The level of interest for the specific age group
The underlying ability of the participants
Finances
Parental support of the program

Advantages to playing Club/Rep Basketball?
-Players extend their playing season (more games)
-Players get to travel out of town and play in tournaments
-Players get to play on the same team as other athletes from different schools in Timmins
-Players are coached by different coaches as they move up age categories
-Players represent the City of Timmins
-Players increase marketability to University and College coaches who attend tournaments

Appeals
Competitive coaches or members of the TSBC Executive will not engage in any debates with players and/or parents over competitive team rosters unless clear evidence of bias/discrimination is presented in writing to the TSBC Executive.

INJURIES AND CLUB INSURANCE
Should your child get injured during the Club season, parents must advise the Club of the nature and seriousness of the injury. Should the youth require medical attention at a tournament, as deemed by the youth and the coach, parents will be contacted and your child will be brought to the emergency department of the nearest hospital.

Once a youth has seen a medical doctor, the Club must be notified immediately of the extent of the injury by way of medical note in order to respond to the incident accordingly. There are specified timelines that are required to be met in order to receive the Club Insurance.

Each player receives insurance with Ontario Basketball. It is important to note that the policy is an excess policy, meaning that all other insurance options must first be exhausted before this coverage will be applicable (for instance, a parent's coverage through an employer). Our Insurance Broker must be notified within 30 days and claim documentation to be followed within 90 days. In order to make a claim, the youth must be registered with Ontario Basketball which is included with the registration fee.

More information on the Club's Insurance Policy is available upon request.

It is important to note that the participation waiver was agreed upon during the registration process and the Club and its members (including coaches, officials, volunteers and club representatives) shall not be held liable in any way for any injury obtained before, during or after the course of the Club season.
